We partnered with Creative Suitcase as the WordPress developer to create a new brand identity and website that fulfills the organizational vision of being Austin’s iconic cultural hub and community gathering place.
The new responsive website was built on WordPress and included a custom performing arts calendar plugin that made it easy for content administrators to manage events. This was the first, fully bilingual performing arts website in Austin.
The Long Center hosts a wide variety of events that cater to different audiences. We created several taxonomies for their events calendar so that users could quickly find events that they were looking for.
Most calendar plugins allow you to set recurring events that happen on a set schedule, for example, "every day for 5 days". Like other performing arts venues, this rigid logic doesn't work when a musician is performing on Monday at 7pm, Tuesday at 7pm and 9pm, and Thursday at 8pm. We created a custom plugin that gave them the functionality to manage multiple showtimes for any given event.
The Long Center wanted to have a way for the community to contribute their stories, experience, and memories to the website. We created an online form where users could submit their story. The submissions create content entries that are held for moderation/edits by the Long Center staff and give them one click publishing options. This keeps the staff workload to a minimum.
When customers buy tickets they want to not only know where their seat number is located but what is the view like from that seat. We created an interactive seating map that allows users to get a real sense of the view from their seating area.
The Long Center website had a large, wide sitemap. To make the site as easy to navigate as possible, we created a mega menu that makes it quick to jump between sections and pages of the website.
